Default Porsche adds V6 model to Panamera line up

The new model, simply named Panamera, whereas the V8 keeps its Panamera S and S4 monikers and top-line version continues as the Panamera Turbo, features a 3.6-litre direct-injection V6 good for an impressive 300hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is up 10hp and 22 lb-ft of torque over the current base Cayenne V6; likely the 2011 Cayenne will get the same updates to its base-level V6.
The new V6 will be mated solely to Porsche’s seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) dual-clutch sequential manual that works like an automatic in Drive mode or can be shifted manually via paddles on the steering wheel.
Porsche will also offer the new V6 with all-wheel drive, a model dubbed Panamera 4.
Both new models will also receive Porsche’s automated start-stop system, which cuts power to the engine while otherwise idling, conserving fuel and benefiting all things environmental, not to mention your wallet.
To that end, while EPA and Canadian EnerGuide fuel economy estimates may not yet be available, the New European Driving Cycle combined city/highway estimates equal 9.3 L/100km for the rear-drive model and 9.6 for the all-wheel-drive model.
Aiding fuel economy and performance, the Panamera Gran Turismo features lightweight construction, with axles, doors, hood, wings, and rear deck lid made of aluminum or a combination of aluminum and magnesium. What’s more, the new Zuffenhausen-built 90-degree V6 is about 30 kilos (66 lbs) lighter than the V8 featured in the Panamera S and 4S.
