Porsche 917 turns 40 today

Porsche officialy presented the 917 40 years ago, the date was march 13th.,1969, at the Geneva Auto Show.

In its various forms, there were 65 917s made, 17 of them are on display at the new Porsche Museum

I remember this car fondly as it was the first Porsche I ever owned. Yes gents, the Gulf-Porsche 917 was given to me as a gift back around 1970-1971 although it was much smaller in size and adorned the "race-track" design within the persian rug of my parent's living room.:D
