SOME people spend years saving for a car like this, but one unlucky owner could be about to have it towed away and crushed.
The Porsche Carrera has been languishing in Guildford Spectrum’s car park for weeks, and last Friday, council officials slapped a notice on the back window threatening to crush it.
The car – which costs more than £73,000 when new and has a top speed of 185mph – is not displaying a valid tax disc.
The notice left by Guildford Borough Council claims that the car has been ‘abandoned without lawful authority’, and gave the owner 24 hours before it is removed/destroyed.
Cllr Jenny Wicks, lead councillor for the environment, said factors which help the authority decide whether a vehicle has been abandoned include the length of time it has stayed in its spot, as well as its condition and whether it has number plates.
The person who abandoned the Porsche could also face three months in jail.
A Guildford Spectrum spokesman said staff members reported the car, which is now covered in a layer of dust, to the council after it remained uncollected for weeks.
“It is a complete mystery to us,” he said. “We would love to find out who the owner is and reunite them with their beautiful car.”
The Porsche has a black leather interior, and there is a hand-drawn map on the passenger’s seat and a golf umbrella on the parcel shelf.
Lindsay Armstrong, of the Surrey Classic Vehicle Club, said the council should think of alternatives to crushing the Porsche.
“It would be such a terrible shame to see such a beautiful car destroyed,” he added.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said the car has not been reported stolen, and there are no reports of it being used in a crime.

That's a strange way of handling an abandoned vehicle. Can't the tags (plate) along with the VIN be run thru DMV so as to inform the owner of his abandoned car?

Furthermore, the owner may have been kidnapped or murdered and left dead in the trunk of the car!

O.k., maybe I do watch too much CSI.....lol
