Here's a common question that I thought would be fun to ask!

How many Porsches do you currently own? If you only own one, then please list your past cars starting with your present ride.

O.K., I'll start....

Present ride is a 1991 928S4 in Horizon Blue
Previous P-car was a 1985 928S in Silbermetallic
First P-car was a pristine 1981 924 Turbo (931) in 2-tone silver/charcoal

I currently own four:
2001 Boxster S
2000 996 Aero Coupe
1994 968 Cab
1980 911 Weissach Edition

Have owned: A lot. My first one was two 914s that my friend and I made two from one and shared the use of the car. We were 17, just out of high school. He went into the Air Force, I went off to school so we sold it and went our separate ways. I then went through my Z car stage but eventually came back to Porsche when Z's got heavy and slow. No other car has ever interested me really, well except Ferraris, but I can't afford to drive a Ferrari. I drove a 430 this summer and fell in love with it. Maybe someday ;)

A Ferrari is like a beautiful woman. Everybody wants to test drive her but nobody wants to marry her due to the high maintenance costs of owning one.

I've never really been a keen fan of Italian engineering although their designs are truly in a class of their own.

That is correct, I can get a Ferrari any time, but as you say maintenance cost is too high for just one car!
All my cars and bikes cost me less per year from just one Ferrari!
On the other hand, my brother have the a 2003 Maserati 4200 GT (ferrari 430 engine car) and the maintenance cost is less or the same as any M BMW...

Very well said. The 430's sound still resonates in my dreams. How do they make it sound so good? You can buy a very nice home for the price of a Ferrari where I live, particularly now with housing prices so depressed. I suppose I could buy one, after all, we have a very nice home secluded in the woods, but it would cost me a wife just for starters, even though she likes cars too. Her favorite saying is; I care, but not too much :icon_rolleyes:

What's a 931? I'm not familiar with that number, a special 911 Turbo?

No big deal.;)

The 931 was the factory's internal designation for the 924 turbo which debuted in 1979 and ended production in 1982 as the 944 was introduced the year after.

Here are a few other factory terms:

951 = 944 Turbo
912 = 911 with 4-cylinder engine
918 = 914 with V8 engine (prototype stage)
930 = 911 Turbo
964 = 911 variant (1989-1994)
993 = 911 variant (1995-1998)
996 = 911 variant (1999-2004)
997 = 911 variant (2005-2008)
*998 = 911 variant (2009- ? )
**928S4 = Fourth generation of the 928

*Termed "998" by the common folk but no confirmation yet from the factory that this number actually exists.

**Contrary to popular belief that the "4" in the term "928S4" means 4-valves per cylinder, this number signifies the fourth generation of the 928 as follows:
1977-1982 = (928) 1st generation 16-valve V-8
1983-1984 = (928S) 2nd generation 16-valve V-8
1985-1986 = (928S) 3rd generation 32-valve V-8
1987-1991 = (928S4) 4th generation 32-valve V-8
1992-1995 = (928GTS) 5th generation 32-valve V-8

I needed something to drive on trips with a trunk for luggage and golf clubs, besides my 4WD drive 4 door truck that gets 13 MPG, so I sold MY 2000 996 and bought an E46 M3. Not a Porsche, but a great car. It has the best seats I have ever had in a car. IT is a 2003 with 29k miles, a carbon fiber cold air intake, nice sounding cat back exhaust. I have owned Bimmers before, but nothing comparable to the M. They really do make drivers cars!

I feel for you man! The M3 has a mean streak to it whenever I see one on the street. It looks too intimidating to mess with. Good choice!;)
